Description

Artificial Intelligence has become a strategic tool in contemporary industrial design processes, influencing product conception, system optimization, and data-driven decision-making. This course offers academic and applied training in the use of AI technologies in the design and development of industrial products.

Objectives

  • Understand what AI is and how it is applied to industrial design.
  • Explore AI tools for ideation, form, materials, and processes.
  • Develop critical judgment about the use of AI in design.
  • Apply AI as a creative and technical support tool.

Requirements

Minimum requirements: basic computer skills (Office) are required.

Minimum technology requirements:

  • To properly follow the course, you must have a computer with an internet connection, speakers, and a microphone. A webcam is not required, but it is recommended for the smooth operation of the course.
  • Operating system: Windows 10 – 11 / Mac

Content

  • Introduction to AI in industrial design: what is AI, difference between machine learning and generative AI, and evolution of industrial design with digital tools.
  • AI for ideation and concept: idea generation with AI, prompting for industrial design, moodboards and concept art with AI.
  • Form, style and product language: generative AI, styles, trends and brand DNA.
  • AI, ergonomics and functionality: AI in use and ergonomics simulation, analysis and limitations.
  • Materials, sustainability and production: optimization of production processes and sustainable design assisted by AI.
  • Final project: future of the industrial designer, legal and professional aspects, and integration of AI in the design process.
